Summer Promotion

DuPage CVB is gearing up to launch its Summer promotional campaign, which will include dining and attraction discount offers. This campaign will include a print brochure, online promotion through our web site, e-blasts and social media, and distribution of printed rack cards with all discount/savings offers. If your business is a restaurant or an attraction, and you haven't done so already, please submit your offers by May 8 to Sally Winkelman. There is no cost to participate, but offers must be valid June 1 through December 30, 2009.

 

Sales Team Spotlight

In April, the DuPage CVB Sales Team attended the Affordable Meetings tradeshow in Chicago and the National Association of Sports Commissions tradeshow in Denver. The Bureau is gearing up for the annual One Magnificent Day in DuPage FAM, scheduled for May 14th.

Peggy Frank, Executive Director of Naper Settlement, was in Washington D.C. recently for Museum Advocacy Day. Frank, right, is pictured next to Congresswoman Judy Biggert.

The Village of Willowbrook has been recognized for their support of employees who serve in the military. In March, they received a Patriotic Employer designation from the Illinois Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), and were noted an employer that goes “above and beyond.”

The Village of Lombard recently celebrated the 140th anniversary of the very first Lombard town meeting. The official observation took place on April 27 at Village Hall.

Glen Prairie Restaurant at the Crowne Plaza Glen Ellyn/Lombard was recently named one of Chicagoland's Best New Restaurants by Chicago Magazine.

Q Center in St. Charles has received the 2009 Prime Site Award in the Conference Center category by Facilities & Destinations magazine. This is the fourth award Q Center has received in the span of one year. Other awards received include: Pinnacle Award by Successful Meetings; Planners' Choice Award by MeetingNews; and, Paragon Award by Corporate Meetings & Incentives.

DuPage CVB is pleased to announce that four of its members received Annual Awards for Business Excellence (AABEs) from The Business Ledger at an evening reception held at Danada House in Wheaton on March 25. The AABEs are awarded to suburban companies, business organizations and non-profits for business achievement, growth and community involvement. The DuPage CVB members receiving awards included Desert Rose Design of Elmhurst (Small Companies), Sweet Baby Ray’s Restaurant & Catering Company of Wood Dale (Hospitality Industry), Walden Floral Design Company of Downers Grove (Retail), and the Wheaton Park District (Community Service).

Hilton Lisle/Naperville has been ranked the second best Hilton hotel in the U.S. for front office service and hospitality, based on surveys of over 32,000 Hilton guests.

Phillip's Flowers & Gifts was recently honored with the Property Stewardship Award at the 14th annual  Village of Lombard Business Recognition Awards Luncheon. The award is annually presented to a business that has impeccably maintained its buildings and/or landscape.

Ballydoyle Irish Pub in Downers Grove took home 12 awards at the "Best of the Burbs" banquet in March. Recognitions included: Best Irish Pub; Best Overall Restaurant; Best Casual Dining; and Best Burger.

Don't miss Dinosaurs Alive! at Brookfield Zoo. This new interactive exhibit runs through October and includes 18 life-size, animated, roaring dinosaurs in an outdoor “Jurassic” setting. Dinosaurs will range from 10-foot-tall “babies” to 30-foot-long carnivores. Exhibit includes the world’s largest animatronic dinosaur on display in Roosevelt Fountain.

The Lombard Historical Society will be hosting a trolley tour of historic homes and landmarks beginning at 3pm on Sunday, May 10 at the Victorian Cottage Museum at 23 W. Maple in Lombard. 

Forget the yard work, forget the homework, forget everything and JustPlay on May 31 in Carol Stream! JustPlay offers 100+ interactive recreational activities. Learn new soccer skills with the Chicago Storm, speed pitch with the Schaumburg Flyers, cheer on the mascot race, take part in art and crafts workshops, watch live dance and music shows, try a rock climbing wall, learn how to geo-cache and more. The historic museum village of Naper Settlement is transformed into a Civil War encampment during Civil War Days, 10 am – 4 pm Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17. Hundreds of re-enactors participate, staging a battle each day at 2:30 pm complete with raging cannons and artillery. Walk the grounds and talk to President Abraham Lincoln, famous generals and characters that bring the past to life.

The 50th Annual Lilac Ball, presented by the Lombard Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will take place Friday, May 8. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the chamber's web site at www.lombardchamber.com.

Meet Spiderman and get in on the action at Spidermania on May 29 from 5-10 pm at the Mayan Adventure Indoor Waterpark by Holiday Inn Chicago-Elmhurst.
